How might one structure a course on A Midsummer Night’s Dream on Zoom? In my case, I work through the play, one act at a time, and I use film clips from various productions so as to set up the whole question of contrasting interpretations; Zoom watchers find it easy to see the film clips on their home computers, and I’ll offer some examples from Shakespeare’s mostproduced play. Teaching on Zoom for the past five years has taught me how to turn Zoom’s Chat function into a central teaching strategy, encouraging the participants to make comments throughout, and especially after seeing a series of film clips. Following up on those comments, through individual emails also allows me to answer particular concerns and to raise yet more questions.
